Published Report

Sui is a next-gen L1 blockchain with high throughput & scalability. Sui is developed by Mysten Labs and founded by former Facebook/Meta developers who previously worked on its Libra/Diem stablecoin project. Libra faced much regulatory scrutiny and was eventually abandoned. Many of the team members behind Libra moved to one of two projects: Aptos and Sui.

Sui uses the Move programming language which was developed by their CTO Sam Blackshear, a leading expert in the field and comparable to other famous blockchain developers like Vitalik Buterin (Ethereum) or Gavin Wood (DOT).

This week we’re going back to fundamentals. We use the term web3 a lot around here. But what does it mean and could you explain it easily to non-crypto folk? We’ve broken down this term in the context of the internet as a whole so now you can impress your normie friends with a simple but powerful explanation! Check it out here.

Spotlight NFT Community: Momoguro Metaverse

WHO

Momoguro is a franchise created by Baobab Studios, a 9x Emmy-award-winning interactive animation studio whose mission is to inspire through animation and storytelling. They’re certainly no rookie when it comes to animation having created successful franchises such as Paper Birds, Invasion!, Asteroids!, Jack, Crow: The Legend, Bonfire, Baba Yaga, and Namoo.

Baobab's team includes founders Maureen Fan, Eric Darnell, and Larry Cutler, and its investors include Disney, Peter Chernin, Shari Redstone, Comcast, Liz Murdoch, Samsung, Shanghai Media Group, and Youku/Alibaba.

Baobab's games have been voiced by top talent including Oprah, Kate Winslet, Jennifer Hudson, Glenn Close, Daisy Ridley, Constance Wu, Diego Luna, Liza Koshy, Tye Sheridan, Elizabeth Banks, Ethan Hawke, Lupita Nyong'o, Ali Wong, and Edward Norton.

WHAT

This renowned studio has created quite the buzz by stepping into the world of web3 with their NFT mint for their latest RPG game ‘Momoguro’. The game is set to be released on Immutable X - an Ethereum L2 scaling solution exclusively focused on supporting blockchain gaming.

Baobab Studios claim they are exploring the use of NFTs in storytelling and community building around their franchise products. NFT owners can play around with their “Momo” NFTs by fusing them to create powerful character combinations of strengths and skills.

Momoguro is a fantastical world where creatures of different abilities and strengths use the magical power of Momoguro to fuse together, to form endless combinations of giant Momobeasts.

MINT

8888 genesis “Holoself” NFTs were minted by the community last week on March 2nd and sold out in under 8 hours. The mint price was 0.22 Eth and the floor peaked at around 0.9 Eth shortly after mint.

As of today, March 6th, the Holoselves are hovering around a 0.5 eth floor on Opensea, just ahead of their reveal.

FUTURE OF MOMOGURO

The Momoguro game is set to be released in Q2 of 2023 and it is safe to say that this is a highly experienced team with a strong community behind them. Their discord currently has about 45.2k members and their Twitter following sits at 121.8k followers. The hype behind this project is hard to ignore and it’s not surprising given the track record this team has. Will their foray into NFTs be every bit as awesome as their previous endeavours? It’s certainly promising!

As always, we hope you enjoyed our newsletter of the week! We’ll leave it there for now!

Until next time,

Your NGMI Lab Team.
